I'm new to pc gaming, but have watched my girlfriend play fallout 3 for hours.

I have an ultrabook with no disk drive, so I figured i would just get a torrent of the game. Little did I know I would be spending days trying to get the damn thing to work. So anyway, I download the torrent, mount the iso, run the fallout3launcher, and everything looks great. Until I hit new game, at which point the program force closes. So I tried to get some information. I downloaded the fallout 3 dlc, (whatever the hell that is) and tried to install the 1.5 patch, at which point I get the error message 'ordinal 42 not found in xlive.dll'.

So I download xlive.dll, put it in the right place, no luck. So I download win2k dll fix, still no luck. At this point not even the fallout3launcher will run without giving me the same ordinal 42 error.

I've downloaded over 50 gigs in torrents and spent days working on this problem and am very frustrated. Now, my girlfriend has a disk for the game, and I'm thinking maybe she can just put all the disk files on a flash drive and copy them to my pc, if that would be an easier solution. One last thing, I'm running windows 8 consumer preview, if that has any relevance. Any help is greatly appreciated. If not, any suggestions to post in a proper subreddet would be great.
